Starting my 10th year at Walnut Acres Day Care as your Director is an exciting time! Throughout the years I have had the pleasure to get to know you and your children. For those parents I have yet had the pleasure to talk with I look forward to getting to know you a bit better.
I have been a part of the Walnut Acres Day Care family on and off for over 25 years. As a child, and then as a young adult this place has always had a special place in my heart. It’s because of this that I look forward to helping move the center into the next era. Sara Blackstock left some pretty big shoes to fill but I look forward to the challenge and can say with confidence that I’m ready for it!
While being at the center I have been a teacher, manager, Assistant Director, & now the Director. I studied Child and Family Development at San Diego State, Go Aztecs! After being in San Diego for more than 7 years I decided it was time to come home to finish my masters in Child Counseling at CSUEB. The creativity, enthusiasm, excitement, negotiations, and let’s not forget the patience that happen every day keeps me focused and challenged.
I look forward to using this format to discuss hot topics that we as teachers feel are important for the development of your children. I cannot say enough about the amazing staff that we have here. The staff here are so much more then teachers…
They are counselors & psychologists to a child with a problem.
They are a police officer that helps with a child gone wild.
They are a travel agent that schedules trips for the year.
They are a confidante that wipes a crying child’s tears.
They are bankers that collect money for a ton of different things.
They are a librarian showing adventures that a storybook brings.
They are a custodian that has to clean certain little messes.
They are a psychic that learns to know all that everybody else only guesses.
They are a photographer keeping pictures of a child’s yearly growth.
When a mother or father is gone for the day they become both.
They are a doctor that detects when a child is feeling sick.
They are a politician that must know the laws and recognize a trick.
They are party planners for holidays to celebrate with all.
They are decorators of a room, filling every wall.
They are news reporters updating on current events.
They are detectives solving small mysteries and ending all suspense.
They are clowns and comedians that make the children laugh.
They are dieticians making sure that they have enough food.
They are proud to have to be these people because they are proud to say they are TEACHERS!!
